Courage and Justice is a compelling tale of human determination. Set against the background of New York State's deplorable prison conditions, Eisner has unfurled a story reminiscent of the great 19th century French novelists.

—Eric Seiff, former Assistant District Attorney, New York County, and former Chairman of the New York State Commission of Investigation

Intrigue, politics, corruption, rape and murder reunite two Vietnam veterans from completely different walks of life. They had each others’ backs in the jungle, where John, in an extraordinary act of courage, saved Javier’s life. Decades later, they find themselves in a prison in upstate New York, where Javier is an established gang leader, and John is a newcomer who has been framed for rape.  Through grit, bravery, and self-sacrifice, they find redemption and justice.

Courage and Justice:

  • “Profoundly and by intention disturbingly informative, Richard Eisner's powerful novel, Courage and Justice, discloses the inequities and deficiencies of the criminal justice system through compassionate, interwoven character studies, revealing both the dark side and saving grace of human nature. His clear, taut and earnest prose makes his narrative easy, yet compelling reading.”
